Many nights I’m the last one awake in my house. The last thing I do before going to bed is shut the light out. I’m not sure how the science of it works, but for a few seconds afterwards I can still “see” and remember everything’s place and walk to bed without hitting anything, even though it’s pitch black.
Whenever we lose our intimacy with God — well, it’s like shutting out the light. If we’re not walking in the light He’s given, we may remember how to fake it for a while and feel our way around in the dark, but we’ll inevitably lose sense of what’s up/down/forward/backward/right/wrong. The second we turn the light back on, everything comes into focus.
So stay close to Jesus. Keep the light on.

Ok, guys. Couldn’t wait any longer. I was a bit surprised at some of the frontrunners, but that’s cool! This will effectively be the last round – I’ll announce the top 4 lyric phrases at the end of the week. I’ll be choosing the album title from those top 4, so click away! The catch this time is that you only get one vote, so use it wisely!
Here, in random order, are the top 8 lyrics:

Ok, so we’re not exactly there YET, but that’s where you come in. See, I’ve just spent a good deal of time going through the lyrics on the album and picking out what I think are some of the stand out lines from each song. There are several themes on the album. There’s the idea of renaissance/rebirth/renewal; there was actually a song on the list of potentials called “Renaissance” but it didn’t make the cut, so… There’s also the idea of confession and repentance that seem to run through some of the tunes. Then there’s the relational aspect of much of the lyric. Anyway, rather than bore you with the long, sometimes convoluted process of coming up with a title for the album, I figure I’d see what you guys thought.
I’m a big fan of taking the title for the album from a line that might otherwise get lost in the album somewhere but that is nevertheless important. So, in the spirit of democracy, I’d love it if you voted for your favorite lyric in the poll I’ve made up below. Each of these lyrics appear somewhere in one of the songs. You can vote for as many as you’d like, but in order for this to be helpful, I’d say to keep it to less than 5.
Thanks!
